This article discusses the key aspects related to the problems of the indigenous population of the Russian Federation. The role of the state national policy in the revival of the small Soyot people is analyzed. The Soyots were once part of a group of peoples that eventually split into three groups, then the Soyots themselves were almost absorbed by the much larger Buryat groups that migrated to their homeland from Mongolia. It is concluded that currently Soyots live on the territory of Buryatia and seek to revive their culture. It is important to note that the Soyot language is close to extinction.
