Role of Grant Support in Effectiveness Improvement of Socially Oriented Nonprofit Organizations (Exemplified by Southern Federal District)

The article examines the role of government grants in enhancing the efficiency and competitiveness of socially oriented nonprofit organizations in the regions of the Southern Federal District. Research methods used include statistical analysis of data on the number and structure of competitive applications from socially oriented nonprofit organizations in the Southern Federal District, as well as classification of grant support functions. Particular attention is paid to the mechanism of selection of competitive applications and provision of support, as well as an analysis of the results of regional nonprofit organizations’ participation in Presidential Grants competitions between 2017 and 2025. It is emphasized that grants play a crucial role in financing the activities of socially oriented nonprofit organizations, ensuring successful implementation of social projects, and reducing the financial burden on these organizations. The article substantiates that receiving grant support contributes to recognition growth of nonprofit organizations within society and their reputation improvement, which in turn leads to increased trust from civil society and potential partners such as other nonprofit organizations, business representatives, government authorities, and local self-government bodies. Based on the analysis of statistical data about projects of nonprofit organizations in the Southern Federal District that received grant support, both leading and lagging regions in terms of the number of submitted and supported projects are identified. As a result of the analysis, the authors identify four subsystems of nonprofit organization functioning that are influenced by grant support and formulate a list of its functions in supporting the activities of nonprofit sector entities, which consists of eight positions. These functions specify the degree of impact of grant support on various aspects of the functioning of socially oriented nonprofit organizations. Authors’ contribution. I.A.
