Role and objectives of the defender in the preliminary investigation stage

This article discusses the role, tasks and functions of the defender at such a stage of the criminal process as a preliminary investigation. The concept of a defender in criminal proceedings is also analyzed from the point of view of doctrinal understanding and understanding of the legislator. The author examines the differences between qualified legal aid and legal aid. The author's specification of Article 49 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation is proposed.
