The review presents data on the relationship between latent Epstein-Bar virus (EBV) infection and clinical features of disease and inflammatory cell infiltrate in the gastric mucosa of patients with pre-cancer and cancer of the stomach. Detection of viral genome and Epstein-Barr virus RNA has been shown to be necessary. Humoral specific immunity has been found to be related with dysplasia of the gastric mucosa. The mechanisms involving Helicobacter pylori into gastrocancerogenesis are discussed.
