Role of Environmental Security in Ensuring Regional Economic Security (Exemplified by Krasnodar Krai)

Today, the study of the role of environmental security in ensuring the economic security of the state is highly relevant and essential for the development of effective state policies aimed at sustainable development and the protection of societal interests. Environmental security is defined as the safeguarding of the environment and human health from adverse effects associated with human activities and natural phenomena. This concept encompasses key aspects such as environmental protection, public health, sustainable societal development, environmental legislation, education, and awareness. Therefore, the significance of this paper arises from the increasing environmental threats, including climate change, pollution, and the depletion of natural resources, as well as the rising frequency of emergencies and their consequential impacts, which profoundly affect both environmental and economic security. The purpose of the study is to substantiate the impact of environmental security on economic security in general and its components. The article analyses the essence and threats to environmental security of the Russian Federation. The example of Krasnodar Krai reflects the impact of the latest major natural disasters on the development of the region. An analysis of the following environmental indicators at the level of the Krasnodar Territory was carried out: a consolidated environmental index, the volume of pollutant emissions into the atmosphere, and environmental protection costs. The impact of environmental security on social and food components of economic security is also reflected. The authors substantiate the need for joint efforts by the state, business and society to maintain a sustainable level of environmental security in order to improve the efficiency of economic security of the region and the country.
