The implementation of computed tomography has significantly changed the attitude to the entire diagnostic process in clinical medicine. The aim of this study was to evaluate the capacity of computed tomography in the diagnosis of changes in bone mineral density caused by degenerative diseases and spinal osteoporosis in workers engaged in metallurgical industry. The undoubted advantages of ultrasonic computed densitometry include high informativity, no negative impact on the body, high speed of the procedure, low cost, and absence of contraindications. Ultrasonic densitometry can be used not only for the diagnosis of osteopenia and osteoporosis, but also for the monitoring of treatment efficacy.
