We assessed the morphological and functional changes of the heart chambers in predicting the risk of cardiovascular death in patients with coronary heart disease of high and very high risk. We enrolled 132 patients. Correlations between end diastolic volume (EDV), end diastolic dimension (EDD), interventricular septal (IVS) thickness and risk of cardiovascular death were observed. In carrying out univariate and multivariate regression analysis the levels of EDV > 123 ml, EDD > 51 mm and IVS thickness > 11.5 mm were independent predictors of cardiovascular death in patients with ischemic heart disease.
