This article presents a modern approach to the use of nutritional supplements in the practice of athletes’ training, including elite and youth sports. It is shown that the use of specialized nutritional supplements should be based on knowledge of all aspects of athlete’s metabolism, considering his qualification, specialization and age. Since March 2018 the Consensus of the International Olympic Committee (IOC-2018 Consensus) on the use of nutritional supplements has become the main regulatory document in this area. As applied to the field of sports threpsology, which today assumes the consolidated functions of sports pharmacology and nutrition, carefully selected for its composition, adapted to the frequency and duration of use in a particular sport, individualized nutritional and metabolic support, built on a rational and reasonable use of nutritional supplements in combination with a balanced basic diet, can create metabolic conditions for the body demonstrating his maximum physical and mental capacities, avoiding the development of energy and the relative failure of the substrate, increasing the risk of injury and delay the recovery process. The article indicates that qualitative (according to the list) and quantitative (daily and course doses) approaches to building nutritional and metabolic support in young athletes should take into account the specifics of the functional state of the organism in the late prepubertal and pubertal periods of ontogenesis.
