The role of attitude towards military service in experiencing subjective well-being by cadets of a military institute

Introduction. The structure of cadets' attitudes toward military service, as well as their role in experiencing subjective well-being, is under examination. In socio-psychological science, valuable theoretical experience has been accumulated on the category of “attitude”. However, its possible influence on an individual’s experience of subjective well-being has not yet received sufficient attention. This actualizes the need to conduct empirical research in order to establish a connection between these socio-psychological phenomena. The purpose is to establish a prediction of attitude towards military service in experiencing subjective well-being by cadets of military institutes. Materials and Methods. Based on the analysis of the results of the pilot study and theoretical understanding of the phenomenon of attitude towards military service, 65 statements were identified and included in the questionnaire. The structure of cadets’ attitudes towards military service was clarified and compiled into separate significant groups for further regression analysis with an integral indicator of subjective well-being. The study sample consisted of 350 cadets aged from 19 to 24. Statistical data processing was carried out through factor and regression analysis in the SPSS-26 software package. Results and Discussion. The structure of attitudes towards military service characterizes the emotional assessment of the vision of military professional activity among cadets. The quality of this assessment is determined by their experiencing subjective well-being. The role of the subjective well-being of military service in achieving life goals, professional and personal growth, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, cultivating the best man's qualities in an individual, forming an active life position, maintaining traditional values, state ideology and moral principles of society, etc. is underlined. Conclusions. The results of the conducted study enable the author to estimate a significant role of attitude towards military service in military cadets’ experiencing subjective well-being. Their examination and consideration in cadets’ military professional activity are of essential prognostic and practical interest. Such knowledge can facilitate planning the events of military patriotic training aimed at formation of positive attitude towards military service, which will increase the level of cadets’ subjective well-being, and, thus, will have a favourable impact on the process of training professional military personnel.
