The Role of Parasitoids of the Eight-Toothed Spruce Bark Beetle Ips typographus (L.) at different Stages of its Outbreak Foci Development in Spruce Forests of the Moscow region
This article examines the species composition and population dynamics of parasitoids of Ips typographus (Linnaeus, 1758) in spruce forests of the Moscow Region at different stages of outbreak development. The study took place during 2013–2023 across six sites in Pushkinsky, Shchyolkovsky, and Mytishchi districts. The study established a relationship between the abundance dynamics of I. typographus and its parasitoids. During the growth and outbreak phase, Tomicobia seitneri (Ruschka) and Roptrocerus xylophagorum (Ratzeburg) occur most frequently, whereas Coeloides bostrichorum Giraud, Dinotiscus eupterus (Walker), and Rhopalicus tutela (Walker) predominate in the inter-outbreak period. The obtained results allow us to outline directions for biological protection of spruce forests, based on preserving natural mechanisms limiting I. typographus abundance – primarily by creating conditions that increase entomophage numbers during periods between mass outbreaks of the pest.
