Analyzing multimodal texts, where language semantics depends on the context of other semiotic systems, is regarded as a new direction within the framework of text linguistics. The paper looks into the use of multimodal texts in Internet-based communication. The author argues the specific potential of multimodal messages as a new way of self-presentation in virtual communication.
