Jean Baudrillard’s idea of symbolic consumption expresses one of the most important challenges of the modern times. The information society proposes a person the broad field for making a choice, but without one’s own guidelines its accomplishment is impossible. In turn, the guidelines are transmitted by the mass media, and their content nowadays doesn’t go beyond everyday routine. Appeal to moral and ethic values, serving to give grounds for more stable worldview guidelines, collides with the resistant wall of the market simulating relations. In this regard, the symbolic consumption idea suggests not only the critical approach to the contemporary society, but also provides a possibility of comprehension of the modern human being existence.
