The role of the Syrian Arab Republic in the civil war in Lebanon (1976-1990)

The article is devoted to the events of the civil war in Lebanon in 1976-1990. The reasons for this conflict are considered. Interethnic and interconfessional contradictions are highlighted. The approaches of the world powers to the Lebanon conflict, in particular the relations between the USA and the USSR, are estimated. The role of Syria in this war and its strategic priorities in the region are analyzed. The article underscores the importance of religious organizations and the role of the Palestinian factor in the conflict. The paper reveals the conflict situations in Lebanon between the groups of the Lebanese and the National Patriotic forces. The study shows the territorial and military ambitions of Israel in relation to Lebanon and the main military actions with the Syrian army. Besides, the author notes the military intervention of the US and NATO allies during the Civil War and their confrontation with the Syrian army. Military and political results for Syria in the Lebanon conflict are summed up.
