The article examines the participation of the Soviet delegation at the XIV International Art Exhibition in Venice in 1924. Russian artists have been presenting their works at the Venice Biennale since 1897, but after the opening of the Russian Pavilion in 1914 and due to the difficult situation prevailing in the country, the tradition was interrupted for ten years. Hence the participation of Soviet artists in the 1924 exhibition was a very important event for strengthening the newly restored diplomatic relations between the two countries, as well as for the maintenance and development of Soviet-Italian cultural ties in general. The presentation of Russian paintings and examples of modern Soviet art at the International Art Exhibition was also necessary for the further development of the young state's culture as a whole. The article is drawn on a large number of documents from the State Archive of the Russian Federation (GARF), the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art (RGALI), periodicals and memoirs of the participants of the events, which allows us to speak about its documentary and historical authenticity.
