Novels by N.P. Wagner and formation of mass Russian literature in the second half of XIX century

Despite the attention to popular literature in the modern interdisciplinary knowledge, the history, the formation of popular literature in Russian culture of the second half of the XIX century is not known. One of the participants in this process was the Kazan zoologist, Professor N.Wagner, in his novels, in particular, extensive work "Toward the Light", appeared some features of the emerging mass culture.
