Russia in search of the semantic identity: from the imperial to civilizational model

The global transformation of the world-system that has occurred in the first quarter of the XXI century, the systemic challenge in the field of Russia’s security, formed as part of the confrontation with the collective West, forces Russia to search for an adequate response, which the author of the article sees primarily in the spiritual and ideological sphere. At the earliest juncture, the country needs to “reassemble”, construct a semantic image that explains its role in human civilization and its position in the modern international system. Several possible global semantic projects in which Russia can participate are examined. The author concludes that the most realistic and viable of them is the project “state-civilization”, analyzes the possible problems that will arise in its implementation. As part of the research, the method of geopolitical analysis, scenario method, and historical approach are utilized.
