Based on the study of official documents, the article examines the activities of the police of the Russian Empire during the reign of Peter III. During the short time of his reign, Peter III quite actively took up the transformation of Russian society. The variety of directions and the number of decrees adopted in such a short time, many of which, however, were implemented by other emperors, indicate the relevance of his decisions. Peter III carried out a reform and subordinated the police to the governmental, provincial and voivodeship offices. However, the decision to liquidate the Secret Chancery and transfer all its affairs to the archives of the Senate was idealized and hasty one, because it deprived Peter III of receiving information distributed around his person, and contributed to the successful implementation of the plot to deprive him of his legitimate power.
