Russian women on the role of prayer in daily life

The article discusses the role and importance of prayer in daily life of the modern Russian woman. The authors analyze the purpose, social usefulness of prayer, its influence on the development of selfconsciousness of the Russian women. The purpose of the research is to reflect the social psychological importance of the prayer in woman’s life. The authors, basing on the results of the study, demonstrate the effect of the prayer on the development of the self-consciousness of the woman. At the same time, the prayer objectively makes easier a difficult path of transition both from the sacred to everyday and from everyday to the sacred thoughts. The empirical basis of this study were judgments of Orthodox church-going women concerning the role of prayer. The main methods of obtaining information in the study were observation and individual focused semiformal interviews. The authors conclude that the behavior model of the woman formed as a result of regular prayer practice provides her a positive way out of difficult situations, makes it easier to overcome the daily hardships.
