Since the beginning of the Ukrainian crisis in 2014, relations between Russia, the United States and Europe have deteriorated. Responding to this situation, the Kremlin has shifted its strategic focus to the Asia-Pacific region (APR), seeking to preserve the geopolitical security of Russia's eastern borders while promoting the economic development of Siberia and the Far East. This strategy was expressed in the concepts of “The Pivot to the East” and “Greater Eurasia”. Moscow and Beijing are developing comprehensive practical cooperation in politics, diplomacy, trade, health care, national security, innovative technologies, energy and the humanities. The article analyzes the factors influencing the development of bilateral relations between Russia and China at three levels - individual, domestic and international. It is concluded that Russia shows great interest in developing diplomatic relations with China; the domestic needs of economic development of the two countries coincide, while anti-Western sentiment in Russia is high and China is assessed more positively by citizens; the deterioration of the international situation in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict in 2022 prompted Beijing and Moscow to intensify cooperation.
