Russian-Mongolian relations: experience of content analysis of media resources of the Far East of Russia

The article examines the media space of the Russian Far East, characterizes the main directions of Russian-Mongolian relations presented in it. The results of content analysis of media resources of seven subjects of the Far Eastern Federal District (Amur Region, Republic of Buryatia, Trans-Baikal Territory, Kamchatka Territory, Primorsky Territory, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Sakhalin Region) are presented. The data set consisted of 533 fragments, in which the categories “Mongol(s)” and “Mongolia” are used. Most of the analyzed materials (76 %) were published on the resources of the Far Eastern subjects directly bordering Mongolia (in the Republic of Buryatia and Trans-Baikal Territory). The key thematic areas in which Mongolia is represented as a strategic partner of the Russian Federation in a number of areas of interaction are highlighted, are the following: defense and military-technical areas, humanitarian problems, culture and history, transport communications, security, economy and politics, environmental protection and others. Special attention is paid to the category “Economics and Politics”. Conclusions are drawn about the specifics of publishing scientific materials in each region of the Russian Far East. Based on their analysis, the current barriers to the development of Russian-Mongolian relations are highlighted.
