Russian citizenship as a constitutional and legal institution

Citizenship is the first and fundamental element of a person's legal status. It gives the scope of rights, freedoms and duties to a specific person. Citizenship is a stable legal relationship of an individual with the state, which finds expression in the totality of mutual rights and obligations, and means the complete subordination of a person to the sovereign power of the state and the protection of the rights of a citizen by the latter.
