The problem orthodox identification in 1985-1997 years is analyzed on the materials of Chelyabinsk region. To study this process were analyzed the main factors - political background and spiritual culture development, which manifested in the interest in spiritual literature, music, fine Arts, religious holidays and ceremonies. The article depicts work of sisters of charity and the work of Orthodox church with prisoners and disabled people. Besides the important factor of growth of orthodox identification is ecclesiastics’ activity, their interaction with authorities about solution of social problems. The activity of bishop of Chelyabinsk and Zlatoust diocese George is shown. Increase of attention to religion as a part of the culture was remarked in 1988 and it became more noticeable after the religious legislation of 1990 year.
