Russian church emigration in China in historical and political context: from the age of militarists to Sino-Japanese war (1917–1937)

The article is devoted to Russian Church emigration in China during the period from 1917 to 1937. It considers domestic historiography of recent years, which made a significant contribution to the study of the issue. The article throws light upon the historical significance of the Russian Orthodox Church in China in a complex political and national context — its opposition to cultural, property, and religious discrimination, and to internal disagreements, its help and care for refugees, construction of churches, and ascetics' activities.
