Russian jokes as a marker of Chinese character

The article examines the character traits of the Chinese as reflected in Russian jokes. Thematically, ethnic jokes build on stereotypes, and jokes reinforce stereotypes in people's minds. The aim of the article is to analyse Russian anecdotes containing Chinese national characters from the point of view of linguistics and linguoculturology; to reveal the perceptions and stereotypes of Russians about character traits and national characteristics. The analyses highlight the positive and negative national characters of the Chinese in different aspects of life, which is an important prerequisite for achieving successful intercultural communications and exchanges.
