The Russian Ferganas: ethnocultural identity in the transformable society

The work is based on the author''s field materials: nonformalized interviews recorded in the summer of 2014 in Fergana city, Republic of Uzbekistan. Fergana is one of the largest cultural centers of the country in the post-Soviet period. The ethnodemographic town image changed: Russian/Russian-speaking residents have become «the new ethnic minority». The article is discussed the processes of adaptation of Russian/Russian-speaking population in new socio-political and sociocultural conditions of independent Uzbekistan. Using the qualitative research methods, this article reveales changes in the ethnic and cultural identity of Russian-speaking population of Fergana.
