On the example of the Republic of Buryatia, the dynamics of the number of students, admission/graduation and employment of graduates of educational organizations of secondary vocational education was analyzed. There are data on the preferences of 9th grade students when choosing a learning path. It has been shown that in the Republic of Buryatia, the increase in the number of graduates of educational organizations of secondary vocational education does not lead to a noticeable increase in the number of university applicants and does not significantly affect the change in the need for middle-level specialists, skilled workers and employees in the regional labor market. Problems were identified and directions for the development of the regional market for secondary vocational education were determined, taking into account the needs of the regional economy.
