Suicides and alcohol consumption in Russia, 1959-2013

The value of alcohol for suicide (SU) of men and women examined in the Russian population in 1959-2013. Reducing the share of women SU was from 20% to 14% in this period. A substantial reduction of SU since 2002 slowed. Its pace began to 2009. Shows a linear relationship of SU and alcohol consumption within 13-22 liters per person 15+, as well as the correlation of SU with alcohol consumption level (0.735 for men and 0.416 women). The main result -46% men SU and 38% of women are directly related to alcohol abuse.
