Suicide in the structure of violent deaths of the population of the Russian empire in the post-reform decades: key indicators, dynamics, trends

Modern Russia has a fairly high level of suicide, which is one of the factors that stimulates the conduct of scientific researches on this socially destructive phenomenon. The article attempts to consider the development of suicides in the overall structure of violent and sudden mortality of the population of the European provinces of the Russian Empire in 1870-1893. This period is characterized as the years of large-scale modernization processes, which makes it similar to the events taking place in modern Russian society. Based on generalization of significant massifs of statistical information on the mortality of the population by authors, the share of various types of violent and sudden deaths of the population in the total number of people who died in a violent and sudden manner was revealed. For this chronological period, the contributions of various types of violent and sudden deaths in the general pattern of violent and sudden deaths among the population of European Russia have changed insignificantly: the proportion of dying from sudden causes ranging from 48 to 41%, death from accidents - from 40 to 46%, from violent reasons - from 12 to 13%...
