Sanatorium and resort activity in North-Eastern Azov region

The article actualizes and proves researches priority of the sanatorium and resort business development in the modern world and in the post-Soviet space, and gives the brief review of historiography on this issue. The authors focus their attention on the development of sanatorium activities in the North-Eastern Azov, a unique corner of Europe. The conditional borders of the specified area are localized by researchers within Novoazovsky and Telmanovsky districts of Donetsk People Republic, of Neklinovsky, Azov, Myasnikovsky districts and the city of Taganrog and Rostov-on-Don of Rostov region of the Russian Federation. The authors characterize climatic, balneological resources and conditions of the region. It is determined that the parameters of bioclimate of the region are favorable for most types of recreation, do not require long-term adaptation. The authors also analyze potential of existing accommodation facilities in this recreational area. According to the authors, sanatorium and recreational facilities of the North-Eastern Azov region are able to receipt more than 300 thousands people for a season. The article reveals the main development problems of sanatorium and resort business in the region, among which are seasonality, outdated fund, violation of sanitary, epidemiological and technological norms, the lack of high-quality infrastructure, fresh water supply, adequate information and advertising company, limited nature of transport services. There is a lack of detailed research on the composition, structure and reserves of mineral waters and therapeutic mud, which together with other factors hinders the functioning of the resort base. The authors propose concrete measures for streamlining and improving the efficiency of sanatorium activities in the North-Eastern and integrated approach to the assessing the development prospects of the sanatorium economy of this recreational zone of Azov.
