Currently, secondary theological education is a popular topic for research. Historians cover both the processes that took place in a specific theological school and the general trend of the theological education system in the second half of the 19th century, when the theological school underwent repeated reform processes. The history of the St. Petersburg Theological Seminary today is covered by both the works of pre-revolutionary authors and modern research. This article presents an analysis of the situation of the capital’s theological seminary in the initial post-reform period. The materials of the first two audits of the St. Petersburg Theological Seminary, carried out in 1868 and 1877, were used as a source. Using the ideographic and comparative methods, the article presents a description of the state of the theological school, as well as the role of the authorities in bringing the seminary to the requirements of the new charter. The purpose of the study is to present the state of the St. Petersburg Theological Seminary in the post-reform period, as well as to characterize the significance of the revisions of the Educational Committee in the development of theological education.
