Breeding for confectionery type - new possibilities of sunflower

The new promising direction in the sunflower breeding at the Siberian experimental station of VNIIMK is the creation of varieties of confectionery type. In 2010, the confectionery variety Baloven was included in the State Register of selection achievements of the Russian Federation eligible for cultivation in the West Siberian region, and, since 2012, in the Republic of Bashkortostan. In 2012, the new confectionery variety of sunflower Sibirsky 12 was put to the State variety trial. The station is improving breeders and foundation seed growing of confectionery sunflower, improving the elements of its varietal technology.
