The purpose of research is to study the development of the main directions of the agricultural sector of Buryatia and identify its personnel problems. Objectives of the study: analyze the material, technical and personnel security of collective farms and state farms; consider the development of livestock and crop production; study the training of personnel at the Buryat Agricultural Institute and other specialized educational institutions. The object of research is the agricultural sector of Buryatia. The leading role in the research methodology belongs to the periodization method, which made it possible to determine qualitative changes in the event-historical description, and to the systemstructural method, which contributed to the identification and analysis of the main indicators in the agricultural sector of Buryatia. The study area is one of the regions of Eastern Siberia. Most of it is located east of Lake Baikal, and the smaller part is located to the south. The materials analysis showed that the restoration of agriculture and bringing it to a new level of development largely depended on the implementation of agrarian reforms, the correct distribution of labor and means of production, the strengthening of the material and technical base of collective farms and state farms, the choice of the main directions in the conduct of economic activity, the preparation and consolidation specialists and agricultural personnel in production. Carrying out agrarian reforms depended on the decisions made by the Plenums of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. The September (1953) and February (1954) plenums of the party supported the initiative of N.S. Khrushchev, begun in 1950 on the issue of consolidation of collective farms. After the March (1965) plenum of the party, the country's economy was transferred to new economic conditions. The ongoing transformations required close attention to the problem of training agricultural personnel. In the 1950s-1960s there was an active search for perfect forms and methods of personnel training. This form of training was found in the second half of the 60s in rural vocational schools. The Buryat Agricultural Institute became the center for training personnel with higher agricultural education.
