Semantic Classification of Indefinite Pronouns: Typology and Universals

Бесплатный доступ

This article examines the semantic classification of indefinite pronouns in English and Kyrgyz. It examines the main approaches to defining the category of indefiniteness in linguistics, identifying semantic classes of indefinite pronouns based on referential, quantitative, and negative features. Particular attention is paid to identifying universals common to different languages, as well as nationally specific features of pronoun functioning in the English and Kyrgyz systems. A comparative analysis reveals both equivalent and lacunary phenomena, allowing for a more precise typological analysis of the languages under study. The results obtained can be used in lexicography, translation theory, and the practice of teaching English to Kyrgyz-speaking students.
