Semantic binary oppositions and linguostylistic devices expressing political realities in V. M. Chernov's autobiographical novel "Before the storm"

The article deals with the analysis of the publicistic style, in particular, linguostylistic devices used by V. M. Chernov (1873-1952) who is known as a philosopher, a politician, the Russian Constituent Assembly Chairman, an ideological inspirer and theorist of the Social-Democratic party in the 1st half of the XX century. The publicistic prose discourse on the example of autobiographical novel "Before the Storm" by V. M. Chernov reconstructs political realities in the history of revolutionary Russia. Linguistic, semiotic and biographical methods applied to the analysis made it possible to describe the stylistic devices and to identify the semantic binary oppositions in the author's text. The present research resulted in the description of V. M. Chernov's style from the point of its distinctiveness; finding the uniqueness of the national political discourse in the revolutionary times in Russia; understanding historical and political events through the prism of personal author's values. The study of the semantic binary oppositions and linguostylistic devices in V. M. Chernov's prose are considered to have scientific novelty and relevance on the following grounds. The linguistic analysis of the autobiographical prose reveals V. M. Chernov as a talented publicist, presents the outstanding politician as a linguistic personality both to the general public and scientific community. The author style peculiarities as well as communicative conduct of politician at the beginning of the XX century is sure to interest the contemporary politicians in the focus of building relationships with their electorate notably, and culture of speech broadly.
