During continuous syntactic analysis we have detected 256 examples (6,6 % of the total number of representations) of the sentences with a structural scheme N1 Vf prep N6 in the novel The Por trait by N. V. Gogol and 100 examples (6,3 %) in the first chapter of the novella A Gentle Creature by F. M. Dostoevskii. Filling positions by lexemes of different semantic classes causes unequal meanings. We divide the cases presented in the texts into three groups: existence/location, state and characterization. In typical structures used to denote existence or location semantics in physical sphere N1 is a subjectexistencer (a subject of existence, availability, location) which is presented by a name of material semantics, Vf is an existential predicate denoting existence or being of the subject, prep N6 is a locative (a place or geographic space where the subject is now). If in position prep N6 we find not a geographic space, but a subject owned the subject or object in position N1, the situation shifts from physical to social sphere. In some cases, the primary meaning of existence / location is complicated by aspectual, characterizing, modus meanings: demonstration of existence in particular place and space, demonstration of existence by light, demonstration of existence by sound, appearance / disappearance. To express state semantics a structural scheme N1 Vf prep N6 is filled in two ways. N1 is an animate subject-experiencer, who experiences a certain physical or emotional state; Vf is an existential predicate, denoting existence of a state; prep N6 is an emotive named a state. In other cases, prep N6 marks a subject-experiencer or object, which like locative includes a state presented by a name of emotive semantics in position N1. To express characterization semantics, a structural scheme is filled as the one used for state semantics: N1 is a name of emotive semantics, Vf is a predicate of existence / location, prep N6 is a subject, which is given characterization, that is not temporary, as in examples of state semantics, but constant. The discovering a name of abstract semantics in position prep N6 can lead to social characterization of the subject. The novel The Portrait presents many examples in which position N1 or prep N6 denotes a garment, so the subject is characterized by appearance. Therefore, the same notation of the structural scheme N1 Vf prep N6 does not indicate identical semantics. Whole meaning of the expression depends on semantics of used lexemes.
