Semantics of "how"-questions in "Waterland" by G.Swift

The article presents the results of analysis of semantics of “How”-questions in “Waterland” by G.Swift. The following components of semantics of the questions are studied: the topic, the communicative function, the pragmatic aspect of the above mentioned questions. Component analysis and stylistic analysis of interrogative contexts are also conducted in the research. The results of the research show that literary interrogation in the novel can be characterized by the following features: dialogism, subjectivity, imagery, emotivity.
