The article considers the systemic inheritance of the traditions of the 18th century by S. T. Aksakov, as well as the diversity of the writer's successive ties with the works of his predecessors. The author examines the links between Aksakov's memoir-autobiographical prose and previous literature, establishes the traditions of sentimentalism in Aksakov's memoir and autobiographical prose. In Russian memoirs, there were signs of a historical, socio-moral, psychological, educational novel. In the memoir-autobiographical genre, the unpredictability of fate and the possibilities of the human personality, its self-esteem and the inexorable force of circumstances are intertwined, as a result of which a diverse, complex and infinitely interesting picture of the era, inexhaustible in its meanings, is created, a portrait of a hero of the time appears. Compositional and stylistic features of S. T. Aksakov and his "Family Chronicle" are largely determined not only by the previous memoir tradition, but also by the literature of sentimentalism, in particular, by the genres of autobiographical stories and family novels. "Family Chronicle" by S. T. Aksakov, which is in many ways a continuation of the memoir literature of the 18th century (and — deeper — chronicle), also absorbed other traditions associated with the novel genre.
