The article covers a process of formation of the modern family reading model in the context of combined development of written systems and skills. The authors distinguish typological features of the following family reading aspects: reading aloud, collective reading, a woman as a reader, and functions of reading. The article gives a brief review of each aspect in the context of historical development and according to the stages of written language formation.
