The article reviews genre features of Russian family novel in A.I. Ertel’s creativity - family subject, family ideal, family as special collective hero, peculiarities of plot and composition, realism in showing life events. The author claims that Russian family novel exists in a synthesis with other novel’s genre types, and family subject is revealed in a wide context of public life of society.
