Family as an object of social and humane study: problem of the definition

This article considers specific character of family studying in several social and humane sciences with the emphasis on the problems of family definition. The most widespread definitions of family in Russian and foreign literature are analyzed. The author gives reasons for philosophic study of family relevance which can help to elaborate single timely definition of family not only for academic but also for practical purpose, i.e. for increase in family policy efficiency. The article contains author's one definition of family which takes into account contemporary trends of family development listed in the article.
