On the basis of legislative sources, the press and materials of public organizations, the role of the Catholic Church and right-wing populists as key actors of the discussions on family policy in Ireland in the second half of the 20th and early 21st centuries is revealed. The determined main stages of a change in family policy are fit into the context of the transformation of the Catholic Church place in Irish society.
