The article analyzes the interpretation of E. V. Ilyenkov’s concept of the ideal by his follower S. N. Mareev. It is shown how virtually all the concepts of the traditional “diamat” definition of the ideal - “subjectivity”, “reflection” and “objective reality” - were reconsidered in Ilyenkov’s concept of the ideal. In the 1960-1970th Ilyenkov opposed to vulgar materialism and empiricism within the framework of the Soviet “diamat” and at the beginning of the 21nd century Mareev spoke against the contemplative materialism in the person of Mikhail Lifshits. Mareev believed that Lifshits’s ontognoseology also refers to the “diamat” metaphysical version of the theory of reflection. Mareev explained Ilyenkov’s understanding of the idealization of the world in man’s labour, focusing on its starting point, where the ideal is formed. Mareev’s interpretation of anticipating action of eye as the initial form of the ideal is specified in the article.
