The Far East region is one of the most remote territories from the center of the Russian Federation, which has the most powerful geographic, economic, and strategically important logistics resources. It is due to such a vast number of different conditions that the Far East can become not just the main trade gateway with the countries of the Asia-Pacific region in the era of logistics turning to the east, but also gain the status of a major international hub serving a fundamentally new direction - the Ice Silk Road, which will become part of the existing Northern Sea Route. Due to its geographical location, sea transport has played a special role in the Far East since ancient times, providing a stable line of not only domestic trade, but also foreign economic traffic. However, today, due to the economic and political events taking place in the world, a kind of logistics crisis has occurred, namely, the termination of interaction between Russian ports and EU ports due to the sanctions imposed, all this has led to a failure of the international supply chain and the loss of one of the largest sea channels. Therefore, in connection with all the events that have taken place, the development of a new maritime direction here in the Far East has acquired the status of a state project, and the advantageous location of the region near the leading countries of the Asia-Pacific region, as well as the potential resources of the north, have indicated a clear need for an international maritime hub to be deployed in the Far East, servicing the northern direction. So what is the NSR anyway and why are they talking about its accelerated development again in 2023?
