The article discusses some aspects of the school system development in Buryaia during the Great Patriotic War and in the postwar period. These aspects include polytechnic education, changes in the content of instruction in national schools, the creation of training and methodological support of teaching in schools. Slowing down processes in the development of school education during the Great Patriotic War, in the post-war period were accelerated, but at a qualitatively different level. The state didn’t not get through the problem of opening new schools, so the population, mainly rural, took over their construction, since most of the schools were in rural areas. The national policy of the state at that time set forward to the school the task of the development of ethnic culture, language preservation. Therefore, a series of books were translated into the Buryat language: in algebra, geometry, physics, etc. Under the new conditions the teachers needed training manuals, so the educational-methodological complex was developed by the teachers of Buryat Pedagogical Institute.
