School textbooks on social studies as a factor for forming the values of modern Russian youth

The article reveals the importance of a school textbook on social studies in the context of the external and internal challenges facing the Russian state. It notes the importance of the content and form of presentation of the material from the point of view of forming the values outlined in the basic documents approved by decrees of the President of the Russian Federation. Using the example of one of the school textbooks on social studies recommended for use by educational organizations, the contradictory nature of individual theses is shown from the point of view of their compliance with the approved national goals. The author touches upon issue of creating a unified state textbook on social studies, and reveals the essence of the discussions on the planned changes concerning the reduction of the duration of studying the subject at school.
