This research is devoted to the problem of secondary texts (sequels) created on the basis of original works. The phenomenon of the sequel in modern mass literature is of great interest to researchers. The impenetrable fashion for classics is one of the reasons why modern writers seek inspiration in the creative heritage of authors such as Jane Austen. The mechanism of functioning of secondary texts is considered from the point of view of cognitive semiotics and sociology of literature. The first approach answers the question of the possibility to reproduce the code of the predecessor in the sequel. The second part deals with the phenomenon ofpopularity of the sequel in modern mass culture and literature. One of the results of the article is to highlight the key parameter of successful styling.
