The image of the Saviour in Powers, which is a Russian version of the image of the Saviour in Glory with the symbols of the Evangelists, took the place of the Central figure of the Russian high iconostasis, which is considered one of the most original phenomena of Old-Russian culture, and was thus its main icon. The first Chapter of the Book of Ezekiel is thought to be one of the sources of the images of the Saviour in Glory with the symbols of the Evangelists. It was widely known as it was entirely included in both Greek and Russian Divine service of Holy Monday and Tuesday, and by the time of emergence of the iconography it had been known in two Slavonic translations. They are Methodius’ liturgical translation and «Preslav Symeonian School» translation with comments of Theodoret of Cyrus. The article discusses the issue of not only mediated through earlier Byzantine monuments connection of the iconography of the Saviour in Powers with this text, but it also analyzes possibility of direct influence...
