The article analyzes the reasons for the approval of the concept of the symphony of authorities as a principle of the legislation of the Byzantine Empire. The problem is that this concept came into conflict with the consistently realized monarchist idea. The meaning of the concept of the symphony of authorities was determined by the Christian faith. This concept has not lost its relevance for many centuries, despite the constant attempts of the rulers to legitimize the principle of Caesaropapism. By definition, the social ideal is not fully realized in public life. However, it allows you to give it focus and meaningfulness. Due to the fact that the medieval state and the society personified by the Church had a religious character, they developed methods of peaceful coexistence and interaction based on the Christian ideal of a symphony of authorities.
