Symbol Motherland in English linguistic culture

The article focuses on the analysis of the earth/land macroconcept in the English language picture of the world. One piece of this conceptual structure is the symbol Motherland. As the study shows, the earth - Motherland symbol is widely represented in the language. The most common of language means of representation are somatic metaphors and kinship metaphors. Earth - Motherland is described via semantic opposition mother - child, supplemented by a third component: Motherland is a giving birth and feeding mother.
