The article is devoted to the study of visual practices of modern agitation campaigns in terms of the use of symbols. The relevance of the research is related to the fact that, to date, the visual aspects of politics in the post-Soviet space have been little studied. This especially concerns the use of the symbolic capital of the territories in regional election campaigns. The author identifies the most characteristic ways of visual positioning of politicians, political parties and social movements and differentiates them in terms of the use of symbolic information. The practice of using the most significant symbolic capital of the territory (memory of the medieval Nizhny Novgorod as the heyday of the city and the time of the Great Patriotic War with the fascist occupation of the territory) is studied. The results of the research can be used by the political elites of the country to increase the effectiveness of communication with target audiences with different cultural and social backgrounds.
